Minigolf Open Standard (hereinafter referred to as "MOS") lanes are usually built on artificial lawns, which are quite popular in North America and the United Kingdom. Minigolf Open Standard is also often called Adventure Golf or Crazy Golf. The Minigolf Open Standard MOS lane was officially recognized by the WMF in 2007 as a minigolf competition lanes. Because WMF wants to increase its strength and further expand the minigolf movement around the world. WMF allows all its members to develop "own" MOS lanes under the prevailing basic framework and rules and to build personalized (i.e., non-standardized) MOS lanes. This open strategy of WMF allows member states to recognize existing minigolf lanes in the name of WMF, participate in the international competitions and host domestically independent minigolf competition.

       The area and shape of MOS lanes are very different from those of miniature lanes felt lanes and concrete lanes. Compared with the other three lanes, it has more different obstacles and difficulties. As a result, specific rules are printed and distributed to all players, or explained to all players before the game.

      Various new styles of MOS lane surface materials, lane borders, lane obstructions and lane’s dimensions are included in the WMF's MOS catalog. Many of the newly recognized minigolf associations in various countries and the new MOS being built will create forces within the country to advance the development of the minigolf movement.

      Even if the lanes look like a mini version of the golf green, Minigolf (including MOS) is an independent, world-wide sport recognized by the（Sport Accord/AGFIS）and the World Minigolf Sport Federation. Although there are a large number of well-designed minigolf courses available all over the world, it is likely that certified MOS courses will contribute to the popularity of minigolf sports. Further developing into an independent mass movement among the growing membership.
